But when I try to browse a user's files, I still get the saaaame message: IP: 189.217.XX.XXX Port: 53XXX/tcp CLOSED.

Is VPN needed? : Soulseek I use it with PIA's app all the time. Including port forwarding. Never had any trouble whatsoever? Sounds like that particular VPN is the trouble, not Soulseek. If the VPN is doing it's job right, it should be transparent to the programs using it.
