Before signing in, the Netflix page is the Japanese one (which is good), but once I log on it reverts to the US website and content. I have no IP, DNS, or WebRTC leaks: all the tests I've tried show my AWS server's Japanese IP.

Hola is not a VPN. You should check out www.hola.com. Tor is great for anonimizing. Hola is a great alternative for VPN. It is free and very fast.
